Last night, the Minotaur I rocket—carrying the Department of Defenses’ Operationally Responsive Space-3 mission (more info, with less jargon on that available here)—successfully launched from NASA’s Wallops Island facility in Virginia. The rocket launched at approximately 8:15 p.m. and provided quite a spectacle from the D.C. area, if you were looking at the right time. Luckily, several local photographers snapped some great pictures of the view from the city and uploaded them to the DCist Flickr pool. Check ’em out, along with some of NASA’s photos from Wallops Island.
