Yesterday, DCist brought you a roundup of adoptable, older dogs in honor of Adopt a Senior Pet Month. Today we’re doing the same thing for cats.
Washington Humane Society
Dasia, 10: “Hello, my name is Dasia and I am an outgoing and lovable gal! I enjoy being the center of attention, and will come right up to you to say hello. I like to pretend that Kitty City belongs to me, so you will find me constantly wandering around checking things out. I am not quite sure how I feel about other kitties living in my space, but I am getting more use to it each day. I do know that I love people and will adore you if you take me home with you! Please visit me in the shelter’s Kitty City today.”
MyMainMan, 11: “I’m in Foster Care!! Are you looking for your main man? If you’re looking for a kitty friend to be your snuggle buddy this is your guy. This dapper man is social, affectionate and gets along with other cats, what more could you want? He is playful and loves to spend time looking out the window and figure out how to climb up to the highest point to supervise what’s going on outside. He loves to come to the door to greet you with his tail straight up in the air and an affectionate head bump on your leg, letting you know he’s happy you’re home. Come get a snuggle today and have one for the rest of your life. To meet MyMainMan e-mail is foster mom Abby at abbyc9876@gmail.com.”

Muffin, 9: “Hi my name is Muffin, and I am a distinguished gentleman at nine years old. I found myself at the Washington Humane Society after my previous family could no longer care for me, and now I am waiting for you in a loving foster home. I may be shy when I first meet you, but I will soon warm up and start looking for pets and quality time. Overall, I’m a very relaxed, calm cat who likes a quiet spot during the day, and wants to talk to you during the evening. Would you like to meet me? Please email my foster mom at hys4@georgetown.edu if you’d like to meet me!”
Micio, 15: “I’m in foster care! Micio is lovin’ life with his foster family, but can’t wait to find his fur-ever retirement home! Abandoned at the ripe old age of 15, Micio is looking for a companion to enjoy his remaining twilight years. If you’re unsure about making a 10+ year commitment to a pet, a senior cat might be your answer. Check out Petfinder’s Ten Reasons Senior Cats Rule. Micio is very well behaved and litter trained. He enjoys head and belly scratches, napping, and watching the goldfish tank. He immediately took to our own cat and within a few days they were buddies. Totally white except a tail that seems to have been dipped in gray, Micio is complete gentleman and would make a great addition to any home. If you would like to meet him, please email his foster parents at eeway3@gmail.com”
Kobi, 12: “I’m not at the shelter, I’m in foster care! To meet me, contact my foster parent at talie.in.usa@gmail.com”
Saxon, 9: “Hi there! My name is Saxon and I am one cool cat. I am super chill, full of affection, and kind of goofy. The awesomest thing about me is that I go on a lead. I would love to go on outside adventures with you! I’m great around kids, dogs, motorcycles (and other loud noises) – nothing ruffles my fur. And I am such a well-behaved 8-year-old kitty – I never go on your furniture and I keep my claws to myself. In fact, I could be the perfect cat for someone who would like a companion at home and at your office or shop, because I am so relaxed and friendly. I love to be petted and to snuggle at your feet at night. Do you want to snuggle? Please give me a forever home today! Please e-mail my foster, Lauren, to meet me, Lauren.j.hines@gmail.com.”
Whiskey, 10: “Whiskey is a sweet 10-year-old, 7-pound female cat. She is a domestic longhair mix with brown, black, and white fur, and an awesome set of whiskers! She is a very chill cat and loves to sleep, be petted, and purr. She adjusts very quickly to new environments and is very loving. Give Whiskey a good home and e-mail her foster Molly at mclarkflynt@gmail.com to meet Whiskey!! If you’d like to see more pictures and videos of Whiskey, please visit her on Instagram: http://instagram.com/whiskeythecatdc.”

Munch, 10: ” Munch is an affectionate senior who loves head scratches. He is most happy when he is relaxing with a human companion. He is content to sit beside you on the sofa or lounge on a sunny window sill watching the world go by.”
Helene, 9: “Helene is a precious 9 year old kitty. She purrs with joy when being loved and petted and if you like a kitty that gives head-butts and makes herself comfy on your lap then she’s the one. She has the most beautiful long legs and green eyes. She enjoys exploring and really likes to play with her feathery toys. Looking out the windows and enjoying the view is another favorite. Helene can live with other mellow kitties and cat-savvy dogs. She has very good litter box manners. Are you looking for love? Then you must meet Helene! Contact her foster mom at mabehme@verizon.net or contact WARL at 202-726-2556 or adopt@warl.org.”

Sugar, age not specified: “f you like cats that have a kooky character, Sugar could be your girl. Sugar loves, loves, loves feeding time. She gets so excited that she cannot wait for food to be placed in her bowl. Often her head beats the food to the bowl, so she ends up with wet food on her head!!”

Junebug, 11: “Junebug, is a short-haired tortie/calico who is sweet, affectionate, and enjoys being pet. Junebug has a lot of personality, and loves to sit near you and be around you. She is a big kitty, but that just means there is more of her to love!”
Dolly and Pookie, 13: “Pookie and Dolly are two 13 year old sisters who have been together their whole lives. They were recently surrendered by their owner who didn’t want them anymore. We are not sure how that is possible. Pookie (black) is so full of fun personality! She follows you around, loves attention and is just a fun cat. Dolly (tortie) is a little more on the shy side, but once she gets to know you, she is a sweet gal who just wants to cuddle and be pet. These two girls deserve a home together where they can live out the rest of their years being loved and appreciated.”
Fellini, 17: “Fellini is an absolutely stunning 17 year old DLH tabby. He was brought to HT when his owner could no longer care for him. Despite the circumstances, Fellini is doing great in his foster home! He is a complete lap cat and when he’s not snuggled in a lap, he’s gazing out the window (he’s a big bird watcher). Fellini is a very vocal cat and will just steal your heart away. Senior cats are often overlooked, this guy has a lot of love to give still! Can you please give Fellini a home?”
Max and Tack, 16 and 10: “Max and Tack are two of the sweetest cats you will ever meet. They love people and each other. They spend their days cuddling and sleeping but are always welcoming of human attention. Max is 16 and positive for FIV with mild kidney disease. Tack is 10 and healthy. Along with their two other brothers they were dumped at a high volume shelter and we rescued all 4 ! Lucky and Jake have found a forever loving home. Can you help these two boys do the same?”
The Feline Foundation of Greater Washington
Jessie, 11: “Adorable Jesse is an affectionate, laid-back softy with an enormous purr. In her younger years (she has been in foster care since she was 1 ½!) she was a fun-loving bundle of energy. But FOUR foster homes later, she has mellowed into a real couch potato who just likes to be around her people. She l-o-v-e-s physical contact, particularly back scratches and being brushed. She also loves tummy rubs and cuddling, and bird-and-squirrel watching. Jesse has been waiting and waiting for a cuddly human or two to lavish her with love. Although we used to think Jessie needed a cat-free home, in her most recent foster home, she has been calm about the presence of the family’s cats, dogs and toddler! While she might still prefer to be an only child, she is, at last, willing to consider the right cat-tolerant kitty companion.”
Melody, 9: “Melody is a stunningly pretty, dilute calico, with snow-white chest and paws, a classic calico “mask,” and a bright pink nose. Melody is extremely shy, BUT she will reward your patience with incredible love, which is all the more sweet for having been earned. After having spent some years in a bustling home with a small child, and another cat (daughter Josie) we think Melody would LOVE to have a quiet home.”
Seniors for Seniors

Li’l Bits, age not specified: “Li’l Bits is such a sweetie, and is so warm, soft, and floppy in your arms! He is so quiet and loving, and understands the challenges as well as the great benefits of maintaining a healthy diet to control diabetes. Li’l Bits is a diabetic himself, although his diabetes is currently under excellent control through a healthy diet. He really needs a special someone to care for his special need and ensure he stays indoors and eats only the special food that keeps him healthy and happy. Maybe you are diabetic too and maybe you and Li’l Bits can take care of each other and fill your heart and home with that special bonded love! Come meet Li’l Bits and find out what a really special sweet guy he is!”
King Street Cats
Jessie, 12: “I’m still a 12 year old, big boned, soft and silver tabby girl looking to share my love. I’m so happy to tell you that I have really come out of my shell now that I’ve been with my foster mom for a couple of months! Although I love living with other cats, I am in love with the extra attention I’ve been getting as a single cat for the past few months. I feel so special, and I love showing my thanks. Once I settle in, I do this by sitting next to you and giving you loving head butts, or by rolling over so that you can rub my soft, silky belly.”
