>> Odean Pope is a legend in his hometown of Philadelphia, choosing to build the jazz scene locally rather than move to New York like so many of his contemporaries. The 75-year old saxophonist is a respected educator and has played with luminaries as diverse as drummer Max Roach and Stevie Wonder. He will lead his own group on Friday at Bohemian Caverns. 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets. Tickets $20 in advance/$25 at the door.

>> The jazz world lost two of its most influential pianists in 2013 with the passing of pianists Mulgrew Miller and Cedar Walton. Tim Whalen will pay tribute to these two seminal artists on Friday and Saturday at Twins Jazz. The band includes some of the area’s finest players, including saxophonist Lyle Link and trumpeter Joe Herrera. 8 an 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $17 plus food and drink minimum.
