HOLIDAY SHOPPING: The Downtown Holiday Market (8th and F Streets NW) kicks off today and continues through December 23. Stop by for artists selling clothing, photography, jewelry, pillows, soaps, and much more. Noon-8 p.m. daily. -Lis Grant

MOVIES: Midnight Madness at E Street Cinema (555 11th Street NW) continues with director Kevin Macdonald’s documentary Marley and Tommy Wiseau’s The Room. $9. Midnight, natch.

MORE MOVIES: If you survived the AFI’s screening of Salo, the National Gallery of Art’s (401 Constitution Avenue NW) post-Thanksgiving schedule offers a pair of earlier, gentler films more from director Pier Paolo Pasolini. Friday the Gallery screens the director’s naturalistic Biblical adaptation, The Gospel According to Matthew (1964), a film influenced by Rossellini’s The Flowers of St. Francis as well as by early Renaissance painting. Also screening this weekend, Anna Magnani plays a woman trying to rise past her former life as a prostitute in Mamma Roma (1962). The Gospel According to Matthew screens Friday, November 29 at 2: pm. Mamma Roma screens Saturday, November 30 at 4 pm. Free. Pat Padua

LIGHTS: Zoo Lights begins tonight. Bundle up and head to the National Zoo between 5 and 9 p.m. to see “more than 500,000 environmentally-friendly LED lights transform the Zoo into a winter wonderland. Lit animal silhouettes, musical light displays, and a garden scene light sculpture make for truly magical sights!” Every night until January 1, expect for December 24, 25 and 31. Free.

SATURDAY

SHOP LOCAL: Small Business Saturday is exactly what it sounds like: A Saturday devoted to supporting small businesses. Think Local D.C., which has a list of places to shop, will host the MADE IN DC marketplace at DC Brau (3178 Bladensburg Road NE) from noon to 4 p.m. A list of vendors can be seen here.

MUSIC: The Walkmen will headline a show at Union Market (1309 5th Street NE). “The show part will take place in the alley of Dock 5 and will also feature scuzzy garage rockers Sunwolf as well as a DJ set by U Street Music Hall owner Will Eastman. Tickets are being sold for $25, but you can also buy VIP tickets for the not-so-cheap price of $125, which get you access to a private area with artisanal snacks by Rappahannock Oysters Co. and cocktails from Green Hat Distillery and Union Market’s Buffalo & Bergen.” Matt Cohen

JAZZ: Matt Savage is just 21-years-old, but his career began over a decade ago when he started performing as a child prodigy diagnosed with autism. He has composed over 150 songs, released 10 albums, and has shared the stage with many of the world’s finest. Savage juggles a busy touring schedule with graduate studies in New York, but he will be at Bohemian Caverns on Saturday for 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets. Tickets $20 in advance/$25 at the door. PANDA TIME: The National Zoo will reveal the name of its panda cub at a ceremony from 1 to 1:30 p.m. There will be “lion dancers, music and a Chinese cuisine treat provided by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.” Plus really long scrolls. Free, but space is limited.

MUSIC: The Kennedy Center’s MIllennium Stage (2700 F Street NW) will host the New York-based vocal band Six13 in celebration of Hanukkah. The band “brings its unique style of Jewish music to the stage, featuring thumping beatbox, intricate arrangements, and soulful harmonies.” 6 p.m. Free.

PET PHOTOS: DC Home Buzz (1405 Park Road NW) will host its Santa Paws charity event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bring a toiletry item or article of winter clothing to donate and get a free photo of your pet with Santa. The donated items will go to Columbia Heights homelessness nonprofit Thrive DC. Sign up here.
