Singer Carole King will perform at the National Cathedral’s gun violence vigil ahead of the one-year anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre.
With the Newtown Foundation, a volunteer organization “focused on educational, healing and cultural programs,” the National Cathedral will host the vigil on Thursday, December 12, from 3:45 to 5 p.m. The first anniversary of the horrific event at the Newtown, Conn. elementary school, which left 20 children and six adults dead, is December 14.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to remember and honor all of our loved ones at such a historical and majestic location in our nation’s capital,” David Ackert, chairman of the Newtown Foundation, said in a statement. “There are groups traveling from across the country to participate and we are thrilled that Carole King has offered her talent. Currently, we have two large buses traveling to the Cathedral from Newtown and we are still fundraising through our website to transport more people.”
Those interested in attending the vigil, which will be livestreamed, should sign up here.
