Last night, an exchange of gunfire between a Metropolitan Police Department officer and a suspect left the officer injured and the suspect dead, according to multiple outlets.
An MPD public information officer says that at 9:05 p.m. last night an officer reported that they were in pursuit of a black male who brandished a handgun at them near the 1300 block of Queen Street NE, close to Gallaudet University. Both the officer and suspect were shot in an exchange of gunfire. MPD confirms that the officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but could not comment on the condition of the suspect. The Post, WTOP, and NBC4 have all reported that suspect has died.
Update: MPD confirm that the suspect, 19-year-old Darius Jamal Murphy, died at the hospital as a result of his injuries.
