It seems there will be no repeat of the Miracle on 14th Street: Gift and card shop Pulp is really closing.

According to a release, the Logan Circle institution will cease operations at 6 p.m. on January 12. Deep discounts will be offered until then, and all sales are final.

“The decision to close the store has not been easy, nor was it made without a great deal of thought and consultation,” owner Anthony Boykins said in a release. “As much as Pulp is loved by the community, places like this aren’t meant to last forever,” general manager Meryl Hooker added. “The time is right to close the store.”

Pulp — known for its purple exterior — was set to close in November 2011, but managed to stay open after Boykins took over. Ronald Henderson, who opened the store in 2002, died in 2009.

Update: In an email, Hooker says “the owner’s priorities have changed and, unfortunately, he had to let the store go. It’s not about the neighborhood changing or rent or landlords or the economy or any brick and mortar doom and gloom. It’s simply a reorganizing of priorities.”

She adds that they’re not looking for a new owner or to move: “The time is right to close.”
