Today in things we shouldn’t have to remind people of: Please don’t leave your kids locked in a car while you go gamble, do any other thing.

For the second time this week, a person has been charged with leaving a child in their car for an extended period of time in Hanover, Md. The Post reports that police arrested 47-year-old Juan Carlos Calva-Diaz yesterday for leaving his six-year-old grandson in a van outside the Arundel Mills Circle shopping center. He’s been charged with confining an unattended child and neglect of a minor. From the Post:

[Anne Arundel County police Lt. T.J.] Smith said that the 6-year-old was alone in the van for 90 minutes with the temperature hovering just above freezing and snow covering the windows. “This is a common-sense thing,” Smith said. “You almost shouldn’t need laws for stuff like this.”

Yet here we are, reporting on it.

This incident comes just three days after a woman, 24-year-old Alicia Denice Brown, was arrested for leaving her four-year-old daughter in a car for eight hours while she was gambling at Maryland Live Casino. She was charged with child abuse, confining an unattended child and neglect of a minor.

So please, for the love of God, do not leave your children locked in cars while you gamble for hours on end. Thanks.
