More than five months after she was arrested for allegedly splashing green paint on walls and items inside the National Cathedral, Jiamei Tian is still unfit to stand trial.

At a status hearing Wednesday morning, both the government and Tian’s attorney agreed with a report that indicates she is not competent to be tried. A doctor at St. Elizabeths, the psychiatric hospital where Tian is being held, said 30 days is an appropriate amount of time to reassess the 58-year-old woman’s competency, her attorney told a D.C. Superior Court judge. Tian’s next status hearing is set for February 12.

At a December 3 status hearing, Tian’s attorney said a psychiatrist believes her client would be able to stand trial in the “foreseeable future.” Tian once again communicated with a judge through a translator, simply saying “hello,” “goodbye” and “thank you” to the judge.

Members of the Metropolitan Police Department testified in August that Tian was found in the National Cathedral with green paint on her person. She is implicated in a similar incident at the Lincoln Memorial.
