In addition to D.C.’s hypothermia hotline, which has seen a high volume of calls because of the polar vortex freeze, there’s now an email address where you can report people in need of shelter.
According to the new DCHypothermia Twitter account, people can email uposh@upo.org if they see a person in need of shelter. Calls can still be placed to 1-800-535-7252 or 311.
Metrobuses are also stationed at various points throughout the city to act as warming shelters, according to a release from Mayor Gray’s office.
The locations include: 935 Pennsylvania Ave NW (in front of the FBI Building); Union Station; McPherson Square (15th and K Streets NW); the West End Library (1101 24th Street NW); and the corner of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and Milwaukee Place SE. Each location will include a portable restroom.
This is in addition to the overflow shelter sites, Banneker Recreation Center, Kennedy Recreation Center and Columbia Heights Recreation Center.
Warming in D.C. will begin tomorrow, with temperatures expected to reach 64 degrees on Saturday.
