Man, Metro riders just can’t catch a break this week.
This morning, trains on the Blue and Yellow lines were seriously delayed due to a cracked rail near National Airport, and yesterday, all five Metro lines were experiencing delays at one point due to weather-related mechanical problems. And now, Metro says trains are single-tracking on the Yellow and Green Lines between the L’Enfant Plaza and Mt. Vernon Square stations due to a “small debris fire.”

Metro spokesman Dan Stessel says that a “small debris fire” was reported on the tracks of the Archives-Navy Memorial station earlier this afternoon, causing trains to operate only on one side of the tracks. Stessel says that there no trains in the area when the fire was reported and the D.C. Fire Department is on the scene. He says that the likely cause of the fire is “likely related to the electrified third rail.”
The fire has reportedly been put out, but trains are still single-tracking. UPDATE: Trains are no longer single-tracking, as of 5:45 p.m.
