A D.C. fire lieutenant has been placed on desk duty amid allegations that no one in the fire station she was in command of helped a dying man suffering from a heart attack.
As Fox5, NBC4 and the Post report, Lt. Kellene Davis was relieved of command Thursday after meeting with fire department’s internal affairs division yesterday. Marie Mills says several people went to Engine 26 in Northeast D.C. seeking help for her father, 77-year-old Cecil Mills Jr., who was suffering a heart attack. He later died at an area hospital. From the Post:
“Several people told me the guy behind the door wouldn’t open the door,” Mills said. “He told them, ‘There’s nothing I can do if my lieutenant doesn’t tell me to go.’ ” She said the same firefighter was seen later in the open bay door, leaning against a truck, with his arms folded. “People went over at least three times,” said Mills, who didn’t want to leave her father’s side.
Mayor Vincent Gray and Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Paul Quander say an investigation is underway, and Councilmember Tommy Wells’ says his committee on the Judiciary and Safety is also investigating.
