If you’re a regular Red Line Metro commuter, chances are you had a hell of a trip this morning. A disabled train at the Dupont Circle station offloaded hundreds of passengers, causing mass congestion and train delays.

Apparently, the congestion was so bad, that Metro employees at the Dupont Station wouldn’t let riders through the gates until the platform cleared up. Metro spokesman Dan Stessel tells DCist that a train was offloaded at 8:53 a.m. and taken out of service because of a “door problem.” Although the pictures depicted what looks like a hellish scene, Stessel says passengers were “accommodated on the following three trains” and that the platform was cleared by 10:00 a.m. “The photos of crowded platforms show what an offload looks like,” Stessel says, “and those conditions were short lived.”

As you can see, the Dupont Circle platform is clear now. Photo courtesy WMATA.
