>> Tosin, the Nigerian-born vocalist, drummer, and composer has been a mainstay of the D.C. music scene for over a decade. He draws from a number of African genres and blends them with American jazz and R&B. >> More than 20 years after their first collaboration, jazz icons Bobby McFerrin and Chick Corea will continue their partnership with an 8 p.m. show at the University of Maryland’s Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. The show is sold out, but it’s worth contacting the box office for last minute cancellations.
>> CapitalBop‘s monthly Jazz Loft will present three bandleaders who embrace the role to deliver high quality music played by top notch musicians. Trombonist Shannon Gunn, trumpeter Joseph Brotherton and drummer Abinnet Berhanu will all bring bands to Union Arts on Sunday. 7 p.m. $15 suggested donation.
>> Formed in Chicago by percussionist Kahil El’Zabar, the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble has undergone many lineup changes, but has nonetheless been performing in some form for 40 years. On Sunday, trumpeter Corey Wilkes and saxophonist Ernest Kahbeer Dawkins will join El’Zabar to celebrate Black History Month at Bohemian Caverns.
