The Caribbean is a weird beast. The band has been putting out some of the oddest music in the local indie scene for years. With each subsequent recording, the band improves tremendously, mixing indie and jazz with a touch of some easy listening, making for some of the best experimental rock music in the region. The band has a new album, Moon Sickness, out today and their release show is tonight at the Black Cat. “Imitaion Air,” the second track off the record, is a slower Caribbean song that has the vibe of Yo La Tengo paired with the synths of Stereolab. Like the album, the track is also one the band’s most tuneful and rewarding.
The Caribbean is playing a free in-store at Red Onion Records as well as with Greenland at the Black Cat. Tickets for the Black Cat show are $10 adv $12 at the door.
