Could we be seeing a snowy St. Patrick’s Day on Monday? Snow Patrick’s Day (sorry/not sorry), if you will? It’s possible, says the National Weather Service.
A meteorologist with the National Weather Service says that the current models indicate a “40 percent chance of precipitation,” but at this point there’s no way to tell if that’s going to be rain or snow.
The Capital Weather Gang says that there’s a 40 percent chance of an inch or less of snow “south and east of the Beltway,” while there’s a 50 percent chance inside the Beltway. A chance of at least four inches is at about 10 percent for south and east of the Beltway and 15-20 inside it. But the thing that’s uncertain is whether or not this is going to be rain, snow, or a gross combination of both. The question really is how cold it’s going to be. Current models call for the temps to float between 32 degrees and 43 degrees fahrenheit between Sunday night and Monday morning.
Either way, the District Snow Team is READY. In a release, they said they’ll have full deployment ready at 8 p.m. on Sunday, with more than 200 plows on District commercial and residential streets by 10 pm. “Here we go again, just in time for St. Patrick’s Day,” DPW Director William O. Howland, Jr. said. “We encourage everyone to be aware of road conditions and take the necessary precautions as they travel, whether on foot or by motor vehicle.”
Seriously, when will spring come and put Old Man Winter out of his misery already?
