Jessy Lanza broke out last year with her debut album Pull My Hair Back. The Ontario-based singer hooked up with Junior Boy’s Jeremy Greenspan to make an album of smooth electronic jams with an R&B bent. Greenspan helped Lanza co-write and co-produce the songs, filtering her sound into his Junior Boy’s laid-back mode. Lanza makes her D.C. debut tomorrow night opening for Cut Copy, which is a perfect opener-headliner combination. “Kathy Lee” is a late-night single from Lanza. The track shares qualities of arrests on her label Hyperdub, fusing multiple forward thinking dance genres. Lanza’s cool voice recalls an airier Aaliyah and charms instantly.

Jessy Lanza plays tomorrow night with Cut Copy and Turkish Prison at Echostage. Tickets are $35.
