In the aftermath of the seminal Swedish hardcore band Refused, singer Dennis Lyxzén kept busy with two projects The (International) Noise Conspiracy and INVSN (formerly The Lost Patrol then Invasionen). Like his other bands, INVSN has a strong political bent. After four albums as Lost Patrol Band and two sung entirely in Swedish as Invasionen, last year INSN released a debut self-titled LP on the band’s new home Razor & Tie. INVSN’s tracks blend the five members’ previous work, taking some of the poppy elements and scathing political takedowns of The (International) Noise Conspiracy and the post-punk flair of Refused. Single “Down in the Shadows” has a New Order-like baseline taking elements from ’80s new wave and post-punk. Lyxzén’s voice still has the fire of his younger days, as he sings about the forgotten and disenfranchised.
INVSN play tonight with Color Film and Technophobia at DC9. Tickets are $12/adv $14/dos.
