Whole Foods will bring fresh products to Ward 8 at a once-a-month market starting on April 5, Mayor Vincent Gray announced today and the Washington Post first reported.
The pop-up will be located on the east campus at St. Elizabeths, in the Gateway DC pavilion. Food will be sold at a regular price, while all profits will be donated back to the community, the Post reports. It will operate on the first Saturday of the month from noon to 5 p.m.
With four locations in D.C., Whole Foods is planning on opening new stores on H Street NE and in Navy Yard.
The pop-up will be located less than a mile away from the Ward 8 Farmers’ Market, although that doesn’t reopen until June 7.
We hope that this is just the tip of the iceberg for Whole Foods in the East End as we work to close gaps in food access citywide.
