Via Shutterstock. It’s official: June 2nd to the 8th will be known this year as “Millennial Week” in D.C.
Mayor Vince Gray recently signed an official proclamation recognizing the first week in June as “Millennial Week” at the behest of organizers of a conference that shares the same name. The conference will “[celebrate] the social, cultural, political and entrepreneurial contributions of the Millennial generation.”
The weeklong series of events, which will include a political town hall, entrepreneur forum, day of service, food event, and brunch (natch), will culminate in the first ever Millennial Awards, which recognizes top millennials in the areas of entrepreneurship, philanthropy, politics, and culture. [Insert joke about entitlement here.]
Although Gray signed the ceremonial proclamation, it’s worth noting that almost anyone can apply for one for certain events (though no word on why he hasn’t signed my proclamation to make every day Pizza Day in D.C. yet). Ceremonial documents are prepared by the Office of the Secretary “for the mayor’s signature for District residents and others under specific circumstances.”
Anyway Millennial Week is still happening and there’s still nothing you can do about it. You’re just going to have to deal with it.
Update: The word celebrate is misspelled on the proclamation as “celebate.”
Deal with it.
