In order to attract residents to yet another apartment building with shiny appliances, a swimming pool, rooftop deck and other big amenities, one company is lowering rents. No, I’m kidding. They’re offering a communal English Bulldog.
As the Washington Post reports, Emmy will reside in the 2M building located at 2 M Street NE.
The building’s owners, William C. Smith & Co., acquired her as a way of attracting apartment-seekers to their building amid a sea of apartments within a few blocks in the NoMa neighborhood of Northeast D.C.
…
Named to coincide with the building’s brand (two M’s), Emmy has a doghouse that is a replica of the building. Residents too busy for their own dogs will be able to pick her up in the lobby, take her upstairs to their apartment or for a walk, and return her as they would a library book, a DVD or bowling shoes.
Emmy, who was highlighted by Urban Turf earlier this year, has her own Instagram account. And even though the “adopt don’t shop” part of my heart is dying a little bit, the dog is undeniably cute.
Preleasing at 2M begins this summer. Prices aren’t on its website.
Update: Here’s a little more on how Emmy will be cared for, via a spokesperson for WC Smith:
Emmy is primarily cared for by our property manager, Doug. Once 2M is open, she will spend most of the day lounging in the leasing office with our team, returning home with Doug in the evenings. Residents are encouraged to come and say hello, and they will certainly see her out in the private dog park, playing with her fellow dog residents. Those who cannot or do not have their own pets may be able to take her for a walks around the property.
