Nick Stefanelli already has Italian and Greek restaurants under his belt. With his latest in NoMa, he’s adding French to the mix.

Because the name “Swampoodle II” is pretty unimaginative.

Faced with criticism, D.C. officials say the program is working as intended, and that 34 of the 45 residents of two NoMa encampments were either placed in housing or about to be.

The clearing of the encampments on M and L streets NE is part of a new D.C. pilot program to offer residents housing before moving out tents and prohibiting anyone else from pitching them.

Two longstanding homeless encampments in NoMa will be shut down by D.C. on Oct. 4, though city officials are working to get as many residents as possible housed first.

Unhoused residents at three D.C. encampments will get offers of housing and services before the city shuts down the sites permanently.

“It’s being able to get something that’s fresh and with flavors that are different than those you can grow,” 25-year-old Iulian Fortu says.

It’s set to open across the street from Swampoodle Park.

The District is one of many cities across the country that have continued carrying out full homeless encampment cleanups during the public health emergency.

The U.S. Commission of Fine Arts board said the proposed plans are too busy for such a small space.
