Pure X released the debut record Pleasure in 2011 taking guitar-pop and warping it into something devilish. The record’s fuzz was druggy like Spaceman 3, but underneath, the band had pop sensibilities and strong songs. After that record and some personal hardships, the band released Crawling Up The Stairs, removing the noise and filth revealing a sunnier, more accessible record. But while the gunk was gone, the lyrics were not super happy, as they reflected the year of hell the band had to deal with. Now less than a year later, the band is readying a third album, Angel, out tomorrow, which cleans the band’s sound up more. But unlike it’s predecessor, it is more accessible and downright happy. Take the single “Heaven,” one of the cleanest tracks the ban has ever recorded. The track has the groove of Real Estate, who the band is opening for on Wednesday. The hook — “Heaven is a feeling” — has a glee that lives up to band’s name.

Pure X play with Real Estate Wednesday at the 9:30 Club. Tickets are $22.
