D.C.’s Democratic nominee for mayor and Ward 4 Councilmember Muriel Bowser has introduced a bill to cut the legal blood-alcohol limit for driving down from .08 to .05.

According to CBS DC, more than 100 countries have changed their laws to reduce the legal limit to .05, but no states have followed suit, even after the National Transportation Safety Board made a recommendation nearly a year ago.

But not everyone is on board with Bowser’s proposed bill. Anti-drunk driving advocacy group Mothers Against Drunk Driving isn’t supporting Bowser’s bill, saying that it doesn’t do enough. Instead, MADD would rather the legislation focus on ways to prevent individuals from driving under the influence by having states and the District require anti-drunk driving devices for first-time offenders.

Councilmember Anita Bonds (D-At Large) was the only other Councilmember to co-sponsor Bowser’s bill.
