Metro riders may spot the new and very shiny 7,000-series cars traveling through the system in the coming months. While they are welcome to look, it’s not time to ride.
WMATA spokesperson Dan Stessel said the new cars are currently being tested throughout the system, on all lines. Daytime testing began Monday, he said, while general testing started in January. By 2018, Metro expects half of the cars in the system the be from the 7,000 series. Deployment is expected to begin later this year.
Among the many upgrades are seats with lumbar support, nonslip flooring and LED screens. All 7,000-series trains will be eight cars in length.

Hey WMATA, I get that you want to test the new metro cars, but I also need to get to work. So let’s keep it moving.
