Look outside: It’s gorgeous out, right? That probably won’t last much longer, the National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the entire D.C. region—including parts of Maryland and eastern Virginia.

The severe thunderstorm watch is in effect from now until 10 p.m. tonight, and warns of “scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to two inches in diameter possible,” as well as “scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 miles per hour possible.” Better tie your stuff down.

It’s worth reminding that a “watch” is different from a “warning,” in that a “watch” suggests conditions are favorable for severe weather, whereas a “warning” means that severe weather “is occurring or is imminent based on doppler radar information.” So, nothing is guaranteed at this time, but, you know, it’s not looking good.

The Capital Weather Gang is monitoring the situation pretty closely and providing live updates, so be sure to check in with them for the latest. Unfortunately, however, today’s storm does not resemble a shark heading straight for D.C.
