Attention future pet owners: The Washington Humane Society is holding your future pet hostage and you can only get them if you pay a ransom.

OK, not really, but that’s the angle of their new kinda cute/kinda creepy pet adoption campaign, wherein adoption fees for dogs have been cut back to $100 (normally $170) and $50 for cats (normally $85). Here’s the “ransom note” WHS left on the Internet, which asks people to “pay up” by June 21 to 22, or else they’ll “be forced to continue to house and care for [the] animals:”

Of course, WHS is no stranger to adorable/clever adoption campaigns.
