Photo by Kevin Winter/Getty Images for NARAS.The comically oversized hat Pharrell wore at the Grammys last January has quickly become as iconic as items like Dorothy’s ruby slippers, Michael Jackson’s glove, and, uh, Lady Gaga’s meat dress.
Case and point: the hat will be on display at the Newseum starting this Friday until October 26, the Post reports. The hat, which gained notoriety in January after Twitter users lost its shit over it and and the subsequent Twitter exchanged between Pharrell and Arby’s (because of the hat’s uncanny resemblance to the fast food chain’s logo), was purchased by Arby’s in a charity auction for $44,000.
Arby’s announced the hat’s upcoming tenure through this Vine, which shows it in transit to the Newseum:
In a statement to the Post, Chris Fuller, vice president of brand and corporate communications at Arby’s Restaurant Group, Inc., says that “The post-Grammy’s Twitter exchange between Arby’s and Pharrell about his hat was completely unexpected and has just become this remarkable moment in pop-culture this year. It goes to show the power of social media in its ability to create news.”
You can see the hat beginning Friday in the New York Times Great Hall of News until October 26. After that, who knows where it will travel to.
