Incumbent Anita Bonds and candidate Elissa Silverman lead in the race for At-Large Council, according to a poll paid for by the latter’s campaign.
Bonds, one of four current At-Large Councilmembers, received 26.5 percent of the vote in the poll, conducted by Public Policy Polling on behalf of Silverman’s campaign. Of the 768 likely voters polled, 17.5 percent went with Silverman. Bonds is up for reelection, while Councilmember David Catania’s seat is up for grabs.
The poll shows that 26 percent of voters are still undecided, while 7.5 percent would go with Robert White, 7 percent with Eugene Puryear, 6 percent with Courtney Snowden and 4 percent with Brian Hart. Fifteen candidates for At-Large Councilmember will appear on the ballot this November.
In a release, Silverman said the poll “confirms that our campaign’s focus on integrity, fiscal accountability, and investing in D.C. residents is striking a chord with D.C. voters.” She was endorsed by the Metropolitan Washington Council AFL-CIO this week.
While Bonds and Silverman have a clear lead in the poll, the number of undecideds is high. In one question, voters are told they will be able to vote for two candidates and are asked, “Who would be your first choice for City Council?” Anita Bonds received 38 percent of the vote, while Silverman received 20 percent. The undecided vote was 21 percent.
