Next month, Dischord Records will release a new album from Fugazi. No, this is not an article from the ’90s you’re reading. Of course, to call the album “new” isn’t entirely accurate. It’s actually old new music. The first stuff they ever recorded.
The 11-track First Demos were recorded in January of 1988 at Inner Ear Studios shortly after the band formed, while only one of those songs was ever released, “In Defense of Humans,” which appeared on the 1989 State of the Union compilation, a majority of them were reworked and recorded for the band’s debut full-length, Repeater.
One of those is “Merchandise,” the demo version of which was released this morning by Dischord. Check out the demo version below, which is a lot rougher and more kinetic than the version that appeared on Repeater.
