If pie is part of your Thanksgiving plan (or maybe you just want to eat pie alone, no judgment here), there’s a local option that’s served with a side of do-gooding.

Food & Friends, the D.C. non-profit that prepares and delivers meals to people with life-challenging illnesses, is once again offering pies through its Slice of Life campaign. Said pies — spiced pumpkin ($25), apple ($25), sweet potato ($25), pecan ($35) and brownie ($45) — are being sold by individuals and organizations to raise money for both Food & Friends and other local charities. For example, pies purchased through the Washington Humane Society, City Dogs Rescue and Lucky Dog Animal Rescue go toward credits for veterinary care at Friendship Hospital for Animals (20 pies equal $450).

Thursday is the last day to order. Pies can be picked up between noon and 8 p.m. Tuesday at one of the below sites.
