>> Those who are in town on Turkey Day should consider heading down to the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, which will be hosting a ’40s themed swing dance party featuring two bands. Free dance lessons at 6 p.m., free music from 7 to 9 p.m.

>> Area saxophonist Elijah Jamal Balbed leads a variety of different groups. A former member of Chuck Brown’s band, his new 10-piece ensemble, JoGo, combines jazz, Go-Go, funk, R&B. The band will play the Millennium Stage on Friday. 6 p.m. Free.

>> Trombonist Bobby Felder leads his big band on Friday at Jazz Night in Southwest. 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets $5. Immediately after the show, the venue will host a free screening of Shirley Horn: Live at the Village Vanguard.

>> Nasar Abadey is a mainstay of the local scene and has played drums for all of the prominent musicians in the region. His group, Supernova, will perform on Friday and Saturday at Bohemian Caverns. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $20 in advance/$25 at the door.

>> Twin brothers and area natives, Peter and Will Anderson are both rising woodwind artists. They will lead a group on Friday and Saturday at Twins Jazz. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $16 plus minimum and surcharge.

>> Friday marks the start of smooth jazz star Alex Bugnon‘s three-night stand at Blues Alley. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $27.50 plus minimum and surcharge.

>> A highly respected performer and music educator, Tony Martucci has spent decades as a first call drummer for many of the region’s top jazz bandleaders. He steps out on his own this Sunday to lead a group through 8 and 10 p.m. sets at Twins Jazz. Tickets $10 plus minimum and surcharge.

>> Blue Monday Blues hosts the Clarence Turner Blues Band. 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets $5.

>> The University of Maryland has produced many talents who have gone on to become important voices in the local jazz community. On Monday, Chris Vadala directs the school’s three big bands at The Clarice for their annual winter showcase. 7:30 p.m. Tickets $10-$25.

>> Tedd Baker is most often seen playing saxophone with the Airmen of Note, the premiere jazz ensemble of the U.S. Air Force. He is also a sought after sideman who has performed with the likes of George Duke and David Sanborn. He will spend December honing his bandleader skills as the Bohemian Caverns Artist-in-Residence. Baker will play 7:30 and 9 p.m. sets every Tuesday. Tickets $10 in advance/$15 at the door.
