In addition to three days of memorial events, the late mayor-for-life Marion Barry will be honored by the Council with a ceremonial resolution.
“Mayor Barry, through his compassion, leadership, activism and advocacy has made a positive impact on the District of Columbia and its residents, has improved the quality of life in the District and leaves a legacy of love that will never be forgotten by the residents of the District of Columbia,” the resolution, which will be introduced by Councilmember Vincent Orange today, states. The Council is meeting for the first time today since Barry’s death at age 78. His body will lie in state at the Wilson Building on Thursday.
