Now that the results of the November general election have been certified, the date for D.C.’s next election has officially been announced.

On April 28, 2015 there will be special elections for the Ward 4 and Ward 8 Council seat. The Ward 4 Council seat, currently occupied by mayor-elect Muriel Bowser, will become vacant when her administration takes over. Earlier today, A.J. Cooper, a two-time At-Large Council candidate who as planning to run for the Ward 4 seat passed away suddenly at the age of 34.

Ward 8 Councilmember Marion Barry passed away on November 28.

Nominating petitions will be made available on December 8 and are due by January 28, 2015 at 5 p.m.
