>> Veteran area trumpeter Thad Wilson leads a group of local all-stars on Friday at Jazz Night in Southwest. The band, which features pianist Allyn Johnson, bassist James King, and drummer Nasar Abadey, will pay tribute to the great Clifford Brown. 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets $5. The following day, the same venue hosts a panel discussion on Brown’s life and legacy. 1 to 3 p.m. Free.
>> A Jazz Piano Christmas, an annual event presented by NPR at the Kennedy Center, takes place on Friday in the Terrace Theater. The concert presents a host of pianists interpreting their favorite holiday classics. This year’s iteration features Kris Davis, Cyrus Chestnut, Harold Mabern and more. 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. sets. >> Baltimore-based artist Warren Wolf is simply one of the most talented musicians you’re likely to see. Mallet percussion is his primary instrument, but he also quite capable of bringing it on piano and drumset. >> Saxophonist Tedd Baker has been generating more than a little bit of buzz during his ongoing stint as December’s Artist-in-Residence at Bohemian Caverns.
