Prior to tomorrow’s Al Sharpton-led “Justice for All March,” which will rally demonstrators against police violence in the country, their will be a “Vigil For Justice” all along 16th Street tonight.

As the Post reports, tonight’s vigil, the “Vigil for Justice: People of Faith Lighting the Way,” will bring together about 30 local churches and organizations for a vigil that will stretch along 16th Street all the way from the White House to Silver Spring. Like tomorrow’s march, tonight’s vigil is in response to police violence across the country and, specifically, the recent deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner.

Though tomorrow’s march is being organized by Sharpton’s National Action Network, tonight’s vigil was conceived by a local resident:

The idea for Friday night’s demonstration was born in Susan Greer Burton’s living room the night of Dec. 3. Burton, who is white, was watching the news with her adopted daughters, who are black. A grand jury, they learned, had declined to indict a white New York police officer who placed Garner in a chokehold during an arrest. They watched the video of the incident, which showed Garner’s pleas for help in the moments before his death.

The vigil tonight will begin tonight at 6 p.m. as participants will be lining every block along the east side of 16th Street.
