Will Washington D.C. be the U.S. Olympic Committee’s selection to bid for the 2024 Summer Games? We’ll find out sometime next month.

For better or for worse, there’s a lot of support behind bringing the 2024 summer Olympics to the Washington, D.C. area, and today, the group behind the push, along with Mayor-elect Muriel Bowser, made their pitch to the USOC.

In a statement, Bowser said it was an “honor” to represent the city and make a compelling case to the Committee. “In DC, when we want something, we go for it, and I am proud of the effort our team put forward today,” Bowser said. “We recognize that hosting the Games would not only be a tremendous opportunity for our city, but a great place to foster international unity and friendly competition among the best athletes in the world.”

Should the USOC select D.C. over Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, Bowser says she is “committed to working with regional leaders to develop a plan that will benefit residents and leave a positive, lasting impact on our city.”

At a press conference, officials from the USOC said they plan to select a city and make a bid. “We had great presentations,” USOC CEO Scott Blackmun said. “Now we have an opportunity to explore how everyone felt about the presentations. We’ll reflect, come back after the holidays and see what’s in the best interest for the United States.”

A decision is expected before the end of January.

Despite declining to send a representative to an Advisory Neighborhood Commission meeting in the area where RFK Stadium is, Washington 2024 said that, if D.C. is selected, they’ll begin public engagement.
