Update: Metro has restored rail service for the Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines, which were previously shut down between McPherson Square and L’Enfant Plaza.
Meanwhile, 12th Street NW is still closed between E and F Streets NW, as DC Water works to fix the 12-inch water main brake in a 61-year-old pipe. They say it could take up to 12 hours for crews to fix it.

This isn’t a pro-tip, just heed my warning: avoid Metro this morning.
At least, avoid the Orange, Blue, and Silver Lines. Shortly after 6 a.m. this morning, WMATA issued an advisory that all Blue, Orange, and Silver Line service is suspended between McPherson Square and L’Enfant Plaza due to a water man break at 12th Street and Street NW.
As of 8:30 a.m., service is still suspended and Metro officials don’t know how long until it’s up and running again. Though Metro is running shuttle buses between those stops, there are still significant delays. Additionally, 12th Street NW is closed between E and F Streets NW, causing significant traffic delays.

Another fun day riding #dcmetro. #Wmata offers shuttle ride at L’Enfant, but they don’t tell you where it goes. pic.twitter.com/ex7ihvw8L8

It’s unknown how long it will take to repair the water main break. According to DC Water, the water main break is about 12 inches. They say it typically takes around six to eight hours to fix an eight-inch water main break. So yeah, it’s not good.
Today is probably a good day to work at home or call in sick if you have to commute downtown. If you can’t, well, may the Force be with you.
