Demonstrators gathered at the mall in Pentagon City on the afternoon before Christmas to protest against the deaths of black men, women and children by law enforcement officers.
The protest, supported by the movement Think MOOR, comes after 18-year-old Antonio Martin was killed by a police officer in Berkeley, Mo. Video from the scene — located in a city near Ferguson, Mo., where Michael Brown was fatally shot by a police officer earlier this year — “appeared to show the teenager pointing a gun at the officer,” police told the media.
In other recent deaths of black people — including Brown, 12-year-old Tamir Rice and 43-year-old Eric Garner — by police officers, the victims were not armed. The decision not to indict officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of 18-year-old Brown set off demonstrations across the country, including at the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City, in November.
