Here’s an interesting fact: With Muriel Bowser as our mayor, D.C. is now the only city of the nation’s top 50 with women in the top three leadership roles, with Cathy Lanier and Kaya Henderson retaining their roles as District Police Chief and School Chancellor, respectively.

Yesterday, all three women went on Meet the Press to discuss their roles, the problems the city faces, and how Mayor Bowser plans to address such issues. Among them: Initiative 71, the voter-approved ballot initiative to legalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana in D.C.

Though it was overwhelmingly approved by District voters, Congress isn’t having any of it and successfully attached a rider to a House omnibus spending bill to prevent the law from taking effect. On Meet The Press, host Chuck Todd pressed Bowser about the issue. Though Bowser vowed to defend the “will of the D.C. voters,” when asked by Todd is she plans to sue Congress over the initiative, she dodged question, saying “we’re going to explore every option” to self-enforce the law.
