It’s official: Christopher Barry, son of the late mayor-for-life Marion Barry, will run for his father’s Ward 8 Council seat.
A D.C. Board of Elections spokesperson confirms with DCist that Barry officially filed his papers to run for the Council seat today.

With Christopher Barry now entering the race, that makes 23—23!—candidates vying for the Ward 8 Council seat. Of course, Barry, along with the other 22 candidates, will need to obtain the requisite number of petition signatures in order for their name to be on the ballot.
In addition to the Ward 8 race, there will be an election to fill the Ward 4 Council seat—previously occupied by mayor Muriel Bowser—on April 28. You can see the full list of candidates vying for both Council seats here.
