Though it doesn’t begin passenger service until January 19—if all goes according to plan—the H Street-Benning Road NE streetcar has been doing simulated service testing for months.
And while simulation service has been rather uneventful, the streetcar got into a minor collision this weekend. According to the District Department of Transportation, the streetcar was involved in an accident with a vehicle at approximately 3:25 p.m. on Saturday. Here’s the statement from DDOT:
At 3:25 pm DC Streetcar while traveling eastbound on H Street, NE, was involved in a collision with an automobile at the intersection of 6th and H Street, NE. There were no injuries reported. The incident has been cleared and service has resumed.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the driver of the car was cited for “failure to pay full time and attention.”
