Yesterday, weather forecasters called for snow this morning. As is customary whenever the weather calls for snow in the D.C. area, we panicked! But perhaps it wasn’t enough panic, because the snow that hit this morning—and is still coming down!—has caused major disruptions for the D.C. area.
In a release, the District Department of Transportation said they were deploying around 200 snow plows beginning at 5 a.m. this morning. Additionally, DDOT said they started pretreating roadways and bridges in anticipation of the snow. Unfortunately, that didn’t help alleviate the major traffic jams commuters in the D.C. area saw this morning.

For those relying on Metrobus to get to work, the snow meant some routes and busses were detoured around the streets with particularly hazardous conditions, causing many delays for bus riders. But weather problems wasn’t confined to the road: Metrorail experienced numerous delays as well.
@Bethesdaist Good morning. Weather conditions are causing major delays, consider cancelling non-essential trips.

And finally, it wouldn’t be a proper snowblivion without some power outages, which happened, of course. Pepco reports there’s at least 6,000 D.C. customers without power— mostly in the midtown, Dupont Circle, U Street area—due to an “underground cable fault.” Pepco expects power to be restored to those affected areas by 5 p.m.
So, in summation: it snowed, everything’s a mess. Probably best to you just take the day off if you didn’t get a snow day (federal employees didn’t) and binge-watch something on Netflix.
