A man was killed during an exchange of gunfire with Metropolitan Police Department officers near mid city late last night, but police say he may have turned his gun on himself.
According to the MPD, officers from the Third District were near the 1400 block of Swann Street NW when they “interrupted a robbery in progress.” While trying to apprehend the suspect, he brandished a handgun and fled on foot.
The suspect and the officers exchanged gunfire and when police located him, at the 1500 block of Caroline Street NW, suffering from a gunshot wound, which a preliminary investigation revealed may have been self-inflicted.
Police say no other injuries were reported and they’re withholding the suspect’s identity until a positive identification is made. They’re asking for anyone with information about this case to call 202-727-9099.
