Sorry, millennials, but your selfie sticks aren’t allowed in the Smithsonian.

The Smithsonian updated their visitor security and policies—effective today—that, among other things, bans the use of selfie sticks in all of their museums and gardens.

“For the safety of our visitors and collections, the Smithsonian prohibits the use of tripods or monopods in our museums and gardens. Monopod selfie sticks are included in this policy,” the new policy reads.

But fear not, selfie enthusiasts, the museum encourages people to take selfies, just without the sticks. “This is a preventive measure to protect visitors and objects, especially during crowded conditions,” the museum says.
