A D.C. couple facing attempted child cruelty charges for leaving their two children in an unheated car last month while they went wine tasting has taken a plea deal.

The parents, 45-year-old Jennie Chang and 41-year-old Christophe Lucas, pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree cruelty to children Thursday, WTOP reported.

According to the terms of the deal, the charges will be dismissed in nine months if they attend a parenting class and keep up good behavior. They each would have faced up to six months in jail if they had been convicted

The children, a two-and-a-half-year-old girl and a 22-month-old boy, were found in an unheated car near the Ritz-Carlton hotel on Feb. 1. Police said the girl was crying hysterically and the parents were at a nearby restaurant, Ris, to attend a wine tasting, the Post reported at the time.
