SATURDAY

Sir Richard Bishop, Robert Millis, and Kohoutek @ Clarendon Presbyterian Church 8 p.m., $10. All ages

Sir Richard Bishop initially made a name for himself along with his brother Alan and drummer Charles Gocher in the prolific West Coast band Sun City Girls between the early ’80s and 2007, before Gocher tragically succumbed to cancer. More recently, beginning in 2004, Bishop launched a successful solo career that saw him taking on a variety of musical styles that ranged from noise (Elektronika Demonika) to Arabic standards (The Freak of Araby) to quiet, contemplative flamenco-informed acoustic pieces that can be heard on The Tangier Sessions, his latest album from Drag City. Bishop plays his first area solo show in ten years this Saturday, along with Robert Millis and Kohoutek at Clarendon Presbyterian Church. — Ahmad Zaghal

Elikeh and Sol Power All Stars @ Rock & Roll Hotel. 8 p.m., $15. Accessible. All Ages

After earning his chops in his native Togo before making D.C. his home, Massama Dogo brought a unique pan-Atlantic musical perspective to the band he formed here, Elikeh. Known for instigating a high energy dance party, Elikeh’s sound is original and infectious, a blend of West African traditions, funk, and Afro-pop with a positive vibe. Themselves veterans of D.C.’s afro-funk and house scene, the Sol Power All Stars support the band with DJ sets similar to their residencies at Tropicalia and the Eighteenth Street Lounge. This Saturday night show is a great example of the amazing musical and cultural collaborations this city has to offer. — Andy Cerutti
