A woman is in critical condition after being struck by a Metro Transit Police cruiser early this morning in Temple Hills, Md.

According to a WMATA spokesperson, the incident occurred just before 12:30 a.m. when a woman was attempting to cross a multi-lane highway in the 3200 block of Branch Avenue, near the Naylor Road Metro station.

The woman—who was not yet identified by authorities—was struck by a Metro Transit Police cruiser and suffered serious injuries. The cruisers lights and sirens were not on at the time of the incident and, per regulation, the officer has been placed on administrative duty.
