New Jersey’s River City Extension is touring to support their fantastic new album, Deliverance, following the tragic loss of drummer Steve Tambone over the wintertime. Few bands come to mind who are as hardworking as this semi-collective; they’re constantly touring and producing high-quality music that’s more adventurous and imaginative than most of their peers, but for some reason haven’t hit their big break. Frontman Joe Michelini writes songs with the spirit of folk-punk, but the musical sensibility of the E Street Band, backed by strings, keys, and all matter of creative instrumentation. If there’s ever been a time for deliverance for RCE, it’s now — Tori Kerr
THURSDAY
Priests, Protomartyr, and the Gotobeds @ U St Music Hall. 7 p.m., $15. All Ages. Accessible venue.
Folks all along the hard rock spectrum should squeal like little ones at this lineup. If for no other reason to check out local punk trailblazers Priests for singer Katie Alice Greer’s unforgettable onstage charisma. But you should see this for myriad other reasons, not just because that Priests are unstoppable and unarguably a shooting star, blasting through the mucky darkness of garage-y indie-punk to a whole ‘nother atmosphere. Detroit’s Promotmartyr master the line between forgettable fuzzy garage rock and powerful post-rock just as Pittsburgh’s Gotobeds give the finger to art-rock cliches. — Tori Kerr
