Update: Humanity has kind of redeemed itself. Since putting the video up last night, police have received a flood of offers of donated wheelchairs, new wheelchairs, and money to go toward a new wheelchair, Julie Parker, a spokeswoman for Prince George’s County Police, said in an email. “We’re in touch with a woman from Prince George’s County who called and has a customized wheelchair, similar to the one stolen. She wants to donate it to Joshua. Her son outgrew the chair and she’s had it around the house for a few years but wasn’t sure what to do with it,” she wrote. While most of the callers were local, they’ve gotten them from as far away as Florida.

As of this morning, there are no leads on the thief. But Parker added that “the community should know our detectives are working hard to find this shameful suspect.”

The boy’s mom left the wheelchair, as usual, in their apartment building’s lobby on Sunday night because it is easier for her to carry him to their second-floor home, according to police. It was gone by Monday morning.

Surveillance video shows a man wheeling it nonchalantly through the parking lot in Langley Park.

“This family already faces challenges and shouldn’t be burdened with the emotional and financial stress of the theft of this wheelchair,” said Captain Ken Humbel in a release. “The suspect we’re looking for has no heart,”

Police also said that they are also working with a foundation who may be able to help Joshua get a replacement wheelchair.
